In 2018, Morgan Taplin noticed the need for a strong community for entrepreneurial women of color like herself in San Antonio, Texas. The lack of inclusion and minority representation within the business world had left little room for professional women to lead and connect, but the unfortunate circumstances sparked a fire in Taplin. In a city where the population is only 7% Black, the event planner took action to unite and create a space for women entrepreneurs to succeed with the creation of Female Executives of Texas (FETX).
For Women’s History Month, BlkWomenHustle® had the opportunity to speak with Taplin to learn more about the progress she’s making to have representation for entrepreneurial women of color through Female Executives of Texas.
The FETX community of entrepreneurs creates space for women to learn how to operate businesses, enlarge their visions, and expand their networks. “I absolutely love celebrating women, it’s my favorite hobby. Watching our FETX Black and Brown members and partners progress and being a part of that is an absolute honor. We are a women’s community and we make sure that is perceived. Female Executives of Texas gives high-touch, exhilarating, educational and all around good vibes with each event and conference we host,” says Taplin.
Although the organization has experienced success with an 85% retention rate for its event participants, it has not come easy. “Being a Black Woman in my industry and location has been rewarding, but also a struggle for support and exposure. I’ve used it to my advantage knowing that I am one-of-a-kind in this city, and I’ve created a lane for Black and Brown entrepreneurs to thrive,” Taplin adds.
Female Executives of Texas looks forward to hosting its 2022 events, including the 4th Annual Success and Slay Entrepreneur Brunch, and Saturday School for Bosses, a women’s conference held in San Antonio and Houston, Texas.
